The ancient drawings found in Utah definitely is a reminder that there are other civilizations besides Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. with petroglyphs that are about 6,000 years old and ar withn our country reminds us that sometimes what we are lookng for is right in our backyard. It is sad, however, that manyof these drawings can be destroyed so easily. If the land is owned privately than the owner can do whatever they want to them. At least developers are taking initiative to preserve these drawings and even share them and their history with the world.
Two summers ago, my family and I had the opporunity to go on vacation to Salt Lake City, Utah. While we were there, we visited petroglyphs in a nationally protected park. The pictures were beautiful, truly works of art. I felt so luck to be able to see them in person. It really is amazing that in American we could have such similar images to those of Europe, Africa and other places.
I can see why people are excited about finding Selam, but then again why are they so impressed with the idea that Selam might have walked on the ground as well as live in the trees?? Human beings are able to climb trees... so why should it be surprising that the first human could climb... wasnt her species aslo known as the first ape like humans...? any thoughts?? anyone...?
Many people think that ancient civilizations only occurred in the Middle East, but the petroglyphs found in Utah show that the United States has ancient history as well. As more and more ancient artifacts are found I think they will uncover the history of civilizations that inhabited the land of America. Maybe then it'll become as important to study as Mesopotamia and other ancient civilizations.
