The Middle East has always been the point of termoil, ever since civilizations were first created there. It seems that there will always be fighting going on at the "naval of the world". What makes it so harsh in present day is not only the enormous loss of life added by the technological advances of the west, but also all the culture and history that is being destroyed as well. As we talked about in class, this is a tremendous loss to mankind. Not to undermind the importance of human life, but in order to know where you're going you need to know where you've been. If humans appreciated the wealth of history of the Middle East they might be less inclined to war over a land that can be shared equally by all.

From June Alexander...

"This is the birthplace of culture and civilization. Why must this area also be the hot spot of so much destruction? People are supposed to learn from history right? But that also brings up the idea of history repeating itself, for thousands of years in the case of the Middle East. In this one area of the world, some of he greatest civilizations-the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians, the Persians, and the Romans-built their large empires and cultures, but were also destroyed by another, more advanced culture or by their own fault. Either way, this is a lesson to be learned from that many people are no seeing, including us."
